Sup buddies?!?!? Spring is right around the corner and we got a few new additions to the menu here at Littleneck (including the Pan Roasted Arctic Char with preserved lemon and sunchoke purée pictured above) and put a new spin on some old classics like the steamed Littlenecks and the bacon plate so if you have been hunkered down in hibernation all winter and haven’t been by in a minute now is a great time to swing through!

And in other Arctic Char-related news, our old pal Edith Zimmerman from The Hairpin did a little listicle for Refinery29 and picked our Cured Arctic Char as on of her 5 favorite dishes in NYC. Thanks Edith!

And New York Magazine wrote up the Shrimp & Grits we serve at brunch (or “Weekend Lunch” as I prefer to call it). Oh yeah, don’t forget we are serving BRUNCH now…..or “Weekend Lunch” if you prefer. Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am until 3 pm.

And finally, we recently got a chalkboard for the sidewalk where we can broadcast our message to unsuspecting passersby. Check it out!

Because we all know oysters are nature’s #1 aphrodisiac we are now booking reservations for Valentines Day! And as always there’s no prix fixe, no price gouging, no nonsense….we are just gonna be having some awesome specials and a couple little surprises for all you lovers out there. So hit us up at 718-522-1921 or info [at] littleneckbrooklyn [dot] com to book now!

And in other news we are gonna be headed back to the Village Voice Choice Eats event again this year! Tickets are on sale now and if you were there last year you know to get there early.

And if you haven’t stopped by to check it out yet Littleneck is now serving BRUNCH or “WEEKEND LUNCH” for those of you who detest the ‘B’ word. In any case we adjusted the brunch hours to go until 3 pm on Saturday and Sunday so you can get that extra hour in….because we know you sometimes aren’t a morning person and we totally understand. But don’t take my word for it…we just landed on the Eater Brunch Heatmap.

Finally, in case you missed it Littleneck turned 1 year old a couple months back and we were interviewed by Eater about where we started, where we are at, and where we are headed in the future. Go check it out….and also in a shocker which has sent reverberations around the world we (or one of us, anyway) was named one of Flavorpill’s 50 Culture Makers to Watch in 2013. I know, crazy. Right?

OK see ya on Valentine’s Day and hopefully sooner!!!

Hey there cats and kittens,

Boy oh boy do we have some excellent things to share. Like really excellent. Did you know that Littleneck has now been rated by ZAGAT? They rate our food and service as “very good to excellent.” (We’re closing in on you, Eric Ripert!!!!!!!!!)

We love our happy little neighborhood of Gowanus, even when the canal smells funny, so we are happy to be part of some great events in our part of town in the next few weeks. On Sunday, November 4th we will be setting up shop at the Sunday Supper Club at Ger-Nis Culinary Herb Center for what they are calling “this fall’s sexiest and briniest event,” working with some of our favorite local purveyors like W&T Seafood, Stinky Bklyn, Two Cousins Fish Market, and and The Lobster Place. You can buy yourself a ticket to this high-quality shindig right here. Space is mega limited!

We’ve also donated an item to the upcoming charity auction held by our neighbors Film Biz Recycling right over on President St. On Sunday, November 9th at the Bell House, among other items, you’ll be able to bid on a Littleneck raw bar platter for two with a round of delicious drinks. Pick up your tickets here and get ready for a fun time.

Thanks to all the guests who came to dinner at the James Beard House last month where our chef Joe Aponte was cooking alongside chefs from La Vara, Talde, Palo, Santo, Fort Reno, and Dough.
Our lobster roll was just voted one of the top seafood dishes in New York by the editors of Time Out New York…and considering that I have eaten most of the other dishes on the list it is seriously an honor to be in such esteemed company. Just look at all that delicious, succulent claw meat! Don’t you wanna stop by soon and scarf one down?!?!?! Here is what they had to say:

Maine lobster roll at Littleneck

The Gowanus Canal may not conjure up New England’s sandy shoreline, but the superlative lobster roll at this hipster clam shack will transport you there anyway. The sweet, gently poached lobster is barely dressed with a transparent slick of Hellmann’s mayo and lemon juice, plus diced celery. An airy toasted split-top bun from Maine’s Lepage Bakeries cradles the tender meat. 288 Third Ave between Carroll and President Sts, Gowanus, Brooklyn (718-522-1921,littleneckbrooklyn.com). $18.—Mari Uyehara

And in other news we are excited to be a part of the first ever marathon-style reading of Herman Melville’s classic novel, Moby-Dick, Or, the Whale, presented by Housing Works Books along with partners Word Brooklyn, Molasses Books, Penguin Classics, Out of Print Clothing, Do or Dine, and, of course us! More info below:

The event will span three days, three bookstores, two boroughs, and feature over a hundred readers, including authors Jonathan Ames, Rick Moody, Sarah Vowell, Touré, Mark Kurlansky, Joshua Cohen, Aryn Kyle, David Goodwillie, Will Hermes, Lev Grossman, Eileen Myles, Elissa Schappell and more; joined by booksellers, editors, bloggers, journalists, and other Melvillians. The full crew is listed and updated at http://mobydickmarathonnyc.org/crew/, and as we near capacity we’ll be taking alternates.

The event will span three days over the weekend of November 16–18, chosen because the book was first published in the United States on November 14, 1851. The event will begin the night of Friday 11/16 at WORD bookstore in Greenpoint, where there will be a pre-marathon presentation of the “Etymology” and “Extracts” from 5PM to 6PM, with the event officially starting with the most famous first line in literature ”Call me Ishmael”, at 6PM. The night will be fueled by clam chowder from Littleneck restaurant. The marathon reading will pick back up on the morning of Saturday 11/17 at 10AM Housing Works Bookstore Cafe in Soho. Around 11:30AM Amy Virginia Buchanan’s Pequod Players will present a dramatic performance of chapters 37–40: Ahab, Starbuck, and Stubb’s monologues and chapter 40, “Midnight, Forecastle.” Saturday will be fueled by more Littleneck chowder before moving back to Brooklyn to continue the night at Molasses Books in Bushwick (4PM–12AM) with clam and flounder chowder from Brooklyn’s Do or Dine. The marathon will finish back at Housing Works Bookstore Cafe on Sunday 11/18 at 10AM, with the chase concluding around 4PM.

To hear the book read aloud in its entirety is a wonderful way to experience it for the first time or anew—and the perfect opportunity to read Moby-Dick in a single weekend. It’s going to be a great celebration of a canonical New York City writer, and hopefully the inauguration of a New York City literary tradition. Though an urban reading of the book might surprise some, it’s an apt home, as the novel begins in the “insular city of Manhattoes” and the author was born and died here in New York City.
